Crayo alternative
The Crayo alternative without the subscription
Crayo is a capable tool with a broad feature list, but it is sold one way: a monthly plan with four separate credit meters that reset at the end of every cycle, no free trial, and a stated no-refund policy. If you post in bursts, test a niche for two weeks, pause, come back, that model charges you for the quiet months. StoryTok makes the same core videos and bills by the rendered minute: buy a $5 or $10 pack when you need one, and every unspent credit is still there next year. Since September 2026 it also covers the step after the render: the web app publishes or schedules a finished video to your connected TikTok, Instagram and YouTube accounts.
The short version
Same videos. Pay per minute instead of per month.
- $5 buys 20 credits that never expire, 1 credit per rendered minute; Crayo’s cheapest plan is $160 a year up front or about $19 a month, and unused credits reset.
- Three free minutes before you pay anything. Crayo has no trial.
- Failed renders refund themselves. Crayo charges on acceptance and does not offer refunds.
- Packs from $5, nothing renews
- Credits never expire
- 3 free render minutes, no card
- Failed renders and posts refund themselves

When StoryTok is the better fit
- You post irregularly. Pay-per-minute beats a plan the moment you skip a cycle, and there is nothing to cancel.
- You want to try the format before paying. StoryTok gives 3 render minutes at signup with no card; Crayo’s pricing page lists no trial and its API docs say free accounts have no credits.
- You want a channel that runs itself. Autopilot watches your subreddits, rewrites the day’s best story into an original script, and renders it on your cadence using the same credits. Crayo has no scheduler.
- You want the upload step handled. A finished, unwatermarked video can be posted or scheduled to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube from the StoryTok web app for 1 paid credit per account. With Crayo you download the file and upload it to each platform by hand.
- You want to import the post rather than paste it. StoryTok reads a Reddit URL and fills in the title, body and stats for the intro card.
- You want your own footage under the story. Custom background uploads are part of the product, not a plan tier.
- You want failed jobs refunded. StoryTok returns the credits automatically; Crayo’s API reference says credits are charged when a job is accepted, even if it fails.
When Crayo suits you better
Crayo is wider than StoryTok. Beyond the five video formats both tools share, it bundles an AI image generator, a face-swap tool, a voice changer, a speech enhancer, background removal, a social tracker and a content-rewards marketplace where creators are paid per thousand views. If you would use several of those every month and will reliably consume a full plan’s quota, its subscription can be fair value, particularly on the annual price.
It also has the larger community: Discord support, hundreds of tutorial videos, and a blog with roughly 900 posts (September 2026). If you learn best from other people’s walkthroughs, that ecosystem is a real advantage.
StoryTok deliberately does less. Five formats, no plan, an automation layer, and posting to three platforms. If that is the part of Crayo you actually use, you are paying for the rest.

Crayo
$13/mo
Hobby plan billed annually ($160/yr up front), or about $19 month to month. Your voiceover minutes run out first.
Both figures cover making the videos. Crayo does not offer publishing; add accounts above to see StoryTok's posting cost.
For videos that come out as one file: stories, texting stories, captions and split screen. Highlights are billed on the source minutes you upload instead, so they are not estimated here. StoryTok: 1 credit per started minute per video (2 with a premium voice) plus 1 paid credit per video per account, priced at the cheapest pack combination. The amount to buy today is a one-time pack, not a monthly price; unused credits never expire. Crayo: the smallest plan whose voiceover minutes, export minutes and workflow credits all cover the month, from crayo.ai/pricing, September 2026. Its meters reset monthly.
Start with 3 free render minutesQuestions people ask
Is there a Crayo alternative without a subscription?
Yes. StoryTok makes Reddit story, texting story, auto caption, split-screen and highlight videos and sells one-time credit packs instead of a plan: $5 for 20 credits, $10 for 60, $50 for 360. Rendering costs 1 credit per minute. Credits never expire and new accounts get 3 free trial minutes for rendering, with no card.
How much does Crayo cost compared to StoryTok?
Crayo’s plans are $13, $27 or $55 a month billed annually ($160, $327 or $664 up front), or roughly $19, $39 or $79 month to month (checked September 2026). Credits reset each billing cycle and Crayo states it does not offer refunds. StoryTok has no monthly fee: a one-minute video costs about 17 cents on the $10 pack and unused credits roll over indefinitely.
Does StoryTok do everything Crayo does?
No. StoryTok covers the five video formats (Reddit stories, texting stories, auto captions, split screen with a streamer layout, and AI highlight clips), an AI script writer, a developer API, Autopilot, and publishing to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube from the web app. It does not have Crayo’s AI image generator, face swap, voice changer, speech enhancer or content-rewards marketplace.
Can I use my own gameplay footage?
On StoryTok, yes: upload up to 12 background clips per account and pick them like any stock clip. Crayo’s workflows use its own footage library.
Can StoryTok post the video for me?
Yes, from the web app. Connect a TikTok, Instagram (Creator or Business) or YouTube account, then post a finished video now or schedule it. Each post costs 1 paid credit per connected account, on top of the render. Trial videos are watermarked and cannot be published. We found no posting or scheduling in Crayo (September 2026).
